Does Foundry Books work without internet?
Yes — 100%. Foundry Books runs entirely on your computer. You only need internet to send invoices by email, activate your license, or use Stripe payment links (Professional tier). All other features — reports, invoicing, bank import, receipt capture, everything — work completely offline.
What happens to my data if I stop using Foundry Books?
Your data is a single file on your computer (ledger.db). It's yours. You can back it up, move it, open it with any SQLite viewer, or export all data to CSV at any time. There is no account to cancel, no server to shut down, no data to lose access to.
What is the Maintenance Plan and do I need it?
The optional Maintenance Plan ($39–$59/year depending on tier) delivers updated IRS mileage rates and 1099 thresholds every January, new features released during the year, and priority email support. It's delivered as a new download to your email — you install it over your existing copy and your database is untouched. If you skip it, your software keeps working exactly as it did — you just won't get new features or rate updates.
Can my CPA access my books?
Yes. All tiers include the ability to export your data to CSV and PDF for your CPA. The Professional and Advanced tiers add a second user seat, so your CPA or bookkeeper can log in directly with View Only access. You can also share your backup file directly — your CPA can open it on their own machine.
Does receipt capture require a phone app?
No. Receipt capture works through any shared folder — Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or a local folder. Take a photo on your phone, save it to your shared folder, and Foundry Books picks it up automatically. No app to install, no account to create, no additional cost.
Can I upgrade from Essentials to Professional later?
Yes — upgrade pricing is available. Essentials to Professional is $100 (not $200), Essentials to Advanced is $200, and Professional to Advanced is $90. Your total cost is always less than buying the higher tier directly. Your data is preserved when you upgrade.
What operating systems are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). Mac support is on the roadmap. If you need Mac support today, contact us and we'll let you know when it's available.
